The Jordan Football Association announced on 20 August 2026 the appointment of Moroccan coach Bado Al-Zaki to lead the national team, succeeding Jamal Al-Salami who departed after Jordan’s historic first World Cup appearance. In his introduction press conference, Al-Zaki said: "The Jordan national team’s door is open to everyone, especially professional players abroad, but according to criteria related to level, readiness and willingness as well." He added: "If they are ready and can bring a better addition than the players in domestic leagues, welcome them." He noted that the ambitions of the Jordanian public and the federation are large, but he will not make big promises, pointing out that achievements do not materialise in press conferences.
Al-Zaki becomes the third Moroccan in a row to take charge of Jordan after Hussein Amuta, the current Al-Ahli coach, and Jamal Al-Salami. Al-Zaki previously coached the Moroccan national team, leading them to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations final after a loss to Tunisia in the final.
Al-Zaki indicated that he will work on building a team that focuses on collective performance and professionalism, with an emphasis on integrating players who excel in international competitions. He also highlighted that the federation values his international experience and his ability to motivate players.
This move comes as the Jordanian federation seeks to enhance the national team’s level after its World Cup participation, focusing on attracting international expertise that can raise the standard of play.
Al-Zaki is expected to begin his work in the coming period, with friendly training sessions organised in preparation for upcoming tournaments, focusing on developing young players and integrating them with professional players.
